Danish-Arab Partnership Programme
The Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP) is Denmark’s flagship initiative for cooperation between Denmark and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Established in 2003 by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DAPP promotes sustainable reform processes and strengthens partnerships that advance human rights, gender equality, youth participation, and economic opportunities.
NCG manages two aspects of the DAPP programme:
1. The DAPP MEAL Unit, which works on monitoring and evaluating the program and supporting partners in drawing learning from their implementation.
2. The DAPP Communication Fund, which provides grants to communication projects related to the programme, and manages DAPP's own channels of communication.
DAPP operates through partnerships between Danish organizations and local partners in Jordan, Morocco, Egypt, and Tunesia. This collaboration combines Danish expertise in areas such as human rights, media, and employment with the deep local knowledge and networks of MENA-based organizations. Together, they work to create inclusive, rights-based solutions that contribute to social cohesion and stability in the region.
The program is guided by Denmark’s foreign policy priorities and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on gender equality, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, and peace, justice, and strong institutions. DAPP has supported projects that empower youth, enhance gender justice, promote independent media, and strengthen civil society’s role in holding governments accountable.
Through its multi-faceted approach, DAPP creates tangible results, such as youth-led advocacy for democratic reforms, training initiatives for sustainable employment, and partnerships that address pressing challenges like gender-based violence. These initiatives highlight DAPP’s commitment to long-term impact and mutual learning between Denmark and MENA countries.
